The importance of justice in society
What is a just society? Why is it so important?
A just society is a society that is ruled by and with justice. Justice is righteousness and fairness. A just society is a society that has fair laws that are upheld fairly. Justice is very important in society because it maintains order in society. People who live in just societies should feel safe; both the citizens, secure in the knowledge that those who are guilty are charged, and the accused, secure in the knowledge that they will get a fair trial. A just society teaches children to grow up to be good, just citizens. A just society is a free society. The citizens of a just society have rights/freedoms, but they also have laws, and those that overstep these laws are given their fair punishment.
When there's no justice in society . . . . .
What happens in a society where there is little or no justice? In a society with little or no justice, there will be conflict, corruption and anger. In a just society, there are fair laws that people are required to follow, and people who don't follow them are given a fair punishment. Therefore, in a society without justice, there will be no laws or no one will follow any laws that are in place, and everyone will be free to do as they please, with no consequences. That society will be filled with conflicts because people can fight all they want, it will be filled with corruption, because people can be as corrupt as they want, and it will be filled with anger, because there is no justice. All that suffer from the conflict and corruption will have no vengeance - the perpetrator will face no consequences - and so the victim will be angry that the perpetrator didn't face any consequences, and they'll probably take it into their own hands, and create even more conflict and corruption. As the Right Honourable Beverly McLachlin says, ". . . . . we realize that without justice, we have no rights, no peace, no prosperity.". We will have no rights, because there is no justice to demand and uphold our rights, we will have no peace, because there are no just laws that are followed and upheld, and so conflict and corruption will rein throughout the society, and we will have no prosperity because we will have no rights and no peace, and so no one will want to work and everyone will steal the wealth from each other, resulting in no wealth for anyone.
In Conclusion
A just society is a society that is right and fair. Justice is important because it maintains the order in society, and gives the citizens of that society rights and a sense of safety. When there's little or no justice in a society, that society will be filled with conflict and anger, and will not prosper.
